Faux Mother of Pearl Technique

Week 5 on Creative-Sketches.com is Anything Goes with a twist-try and use the sketch in your project but in any format you want.  So, I wanted to try the newest technique from the Demonstrator  Support Magazine I get each month from Stampin Up.  It uses the awesome Frost White Shimmer paint which I almost never use, but always love when I pull it out again.  Silly me!

I will be teaching this technique next week at my technique Tuesday class, so I won't go into details now. Join me for class if you are local, or contact me if you would like to sign up for my distance techniques class.  Enjoy the sketch, and stop by Creative-Sketches.com to try your hand at our weekly contest!

Technique Tuesday- Thumping

Each month I teach a techniques class where we go over 2 different stamping or crafting techniques. Participants gradually build up a binder full of things to try with a sample sheet and 2.5x3.5 sample as reference.

This month we did shimmery resist and thumping. I think thumping was my favorite! Similar to coloring with markers, thumping takes an inked stamp and thumps or taps markers in it to change the color. It is simple things that packs a lot if punch! With shimmery resist I got to play with a little known pot of shimmer paint to create a subtle yet lovely background to the card.

I made my thumping sample card using the hostess level 2 stamp set from the new Holiday mini. I love this stamp set!! I will also be using this set in my upcoming holiday stamp a stack. (Saturday the 9th 1-3)

Quilted Top Note technique

I have seen several cards like this before, so I had to try my own. I punched out several squares from my candy cane dsp, then glued them down in a checker hoard pattern to a 1/4 sheet of whisper white. I flipped it over and cut it out with my Top Note die.

I stamped the real red cardstock, and
Added a few more details like another square, and the real red 5/8" grosgrain Ribbon. I piped the top note.

I could have added some white pen faux stitching or done some actual stitching with a Zig zag stitch on the card itself.

Technique Tuesday

It is the first Tuesday of the Month so it is time for Technique Tuesday.  Join me for a quick class covering 2 different techniques.  You will need to bring your 6x6 binder for storing your pages from class.  If you need to order one, let me know!  I recommend a ring binder for ease of storage.

We will be going over a fun new technique shown at Convention I am calling Versamark Resist and Polished Stone.  Hopefully I peeked your interest!  Come tonight at 8 to find out more, and mark your calendar for September!

Technique Tuesday

This is not a great picture, but we went over Poppin Pastels at my last Technique class.  This simple technique lets you use darker color cardstock, Craft ink-in White or Very Vanilla, (or VersaMark) as the base for your Stampin Pastels.  The sticker ink helps the pastel chalk, which is very soft stay on the stamped image.  Use sponge daubers and pounce on the chalk.  Then erase extra chalk away with the eraser in the Pastel Kit.  Due to the Color Renvoation, we have a new Pastel Kit.  If you would like to purchase my used one, please let me know.  There is plenty of life left in the kit!

Technique Tuesday Fake Batik

If you missed Technique Tuesday tonight, here is a quick sample of what we did.

Instructions
Stamp with the VersaMark and sprinkle with Clear Embossing powder. Hit it with the heat Tool until clear and shiny.

Take a section of sponge and rub ink on the card. I used 3 different colors for mine. After getting the ink down on the card, spritz with plain water.

Place the cardstock in between a sheet of paper and run a hot iron on top until the embossed images come through the paper. If it is sticky when you separate the paper from cardstock, simply iron a little longer. Use the hottest setting on your iron, and make sure that it is not set to steam. Now use in your project!

Faux Alligator Purse

I found this here, and absolutely had to try it out! We are doing it at my Mom & Me class today, but might repeat the Technique on a Tuesday at my new Technique Tuesday Class.

A quick instruction list, you will need 3 top notes, 1 box cut with the Box#2 Die, and lots of clear embossing powder and a button, some 1/4: grosgrain, and velcro dots. To do the technique, I took my Versamark pad, covered my top notes with it then coated it with embossing powder. Then I drew lines on them with my boning folder and then embossed it. That creates the faux alligator look. Then I used sticky strip to attach the top notes (use the folded one for the top) to my box, and used a wonderful button and some ribbon on the side to turn it into a clutch. I did use a velcro sticky dot too to seal the purse. Fill it with a 3x3 card, or some dsp covered chocolates.

Technique Tuesday Teaser

I will be starting a new class devoted to techniques and wanted to post an example of Faux Denim. This technique is perfect for childrens themes, western themes, or a more masculine card.

This little card was simple to make using the Faux Denim Technique. You need 3 ink pads, a Craft White, and 2 shades of Blue, a lighter and darker. You also need a shade of blue cardstock. I used Brilliant Blue and Not Quite Navy for ink pads and Brilliant Blue for my cardstock.

Would you like to learn how to do this? Email me and sign up for my newest class. There is no time commitment, simply come on Technique Tuesday, try out 2 techniques, and add the samples and instructions into your 6x6 ring bound album. You will need an album. I recommend the SU ring bound one which can be ordered online through my website, or ordered at your first class August 4th. The class is $5, but if you place a $25 order, the class is free. Bring a friend, and pick something from the goody bag.

If you would like to make this exact card with me, come to my Mom & Me Stamp Class July 30th at 2pm.
